Twhirl releases 0.8.2 more Friendfeed support (rooms) and is ready for XMPP

As TechCrunch just announced, we have just released the 0.8.2 version (download it here) of Twhirl. Lots of work to integrate Friendfeed rooms and improve the experience (linked comments, better behavior in UI...).

XMPP and API limit autoadapt

Even if it is hidden this version is also ready to use Twitter using XMPP, which will bring a live stream experience to the Twhirl users (no need to get data from now and then from the API) and tracking that Steve likes so much. The Twitter XMPP has been off since May 28th (XMPP also allows the IM updates) so we can't release it but we are ready to test it with Twitter friends first when they activate it again, to make sure it scales and then release it to the public. In the meantime, Twhirl can auto adapt itself to how Twitter sets its API limits (they were lower yesterday for the Apple Developer conference).

Full Friendfeed rooms, avatars, pic sharing comments and like support, new UI

The Friendfeed support is now greatly improved and with this version I do not have to go back to the Friendfeed site much, only to add or remove friends as this is not available in the API yet. Thwirl now displays the users avatar, name and date when the item was posted. Comments are scrollable inline and they extend if there are many. Icons for likes and comments have been changed and they are a pleasure to use. Bugs like killing the comment text while Twhirl was refreshing your FF data are now gone.

We had about 400 000 downloads total of Twhirl and it went from about 7% to 12% of all the Tweets being sent. Have a look at this graph based on old data.
