Introducing Seesmic Ping

We are excited to announce the launch of our new multi-posting platform, Seesmic Ping. If you’re familiar with Ping.fm, you’ll discover how Seesmic Ping is even simpler, highly reliable and just totally awesome!

At launch, this free beta of Seesmic Ping will include familiar services to reach your audience:

  • Facebook and Facebook Pages
  • Multiple Twitter accounts
  • Linkedin
  • With more to come…

Main features of Seesmic Ping:

  • Post via web
  • Attach links & images (post pictures on Facebook and Twitter as if you were posting them “natively”)
  • Schedule your posts at any time

We’ll look to have more features and services when Seesmic Ping comes out of beta as a paid service.

We’re also happy to announce the launch of our Seesmic Ping mobile apps, available now!

Discover how easy it is to share from your mobile device:

We’re looking to build out our mobile applications, so feel free to send us feedback on any of our apps on feedback.seesmic.com.

For Ping.fm users – With the release of Seesmic Ping, we’ll look to maintain Ping.fm for some time. In the meantime, we encourage you to sign up for a Seesmic Profile and give Seesmic Ping a ride through our mobile applications or the web.

Enjoy.  We are just getting started…

    love it, thanks :-)
Perhaps the login screen should mention that the app needs users’ Seesmic Profile credentials, not their email and password for it.

This looks cool and all, but please, please, PLEASE add support for Google+, as well as the various photo sharing services (Flickr, Picasa, etc). It was Ping.fm’s versatility to use all these networks that made it so appealing, and adding Google+ to the mix would finally make it all perfect.

So let me get this straight. You’re going to release Seesmic Ping as a paid service and then pull the plug on Ping.fm the free service. I can’t say I’m happy or excited about this.

    It’s a fail. I can’t import ping.fm.
The app fails on Windows 7 phones.
I guess it’s back to trying to make pixelpipe work again.

I agree this sucks! There are too many free 3rd party apps to use, so I’ll simply switch to one of these. It’s also bad to get free advice to make the app better and then pull the free one and charge for this one!!!

Yeah, can add the other networks but not ping.fm….”there was a problem…” which would be the only one I’d need to add….and one day maybe google+. Paid app though? It better be good, then I might consider 0.99.

  • Ivan

Not happy about ping.fm going away eventually. I live it’s simplicity and how it’s work for all my accounts. This new service looks great but more robust than many of us need.

  • http://jcsesecuneta.com/ JC Sese-Cuneta (謝施洗)

Can’t agree more.  You would have thought it’s an “addition” or “enhancement” to Ping.fm but if you read the fine line, it actually isn’t.

Time to move… and time for a new service to take over.  Any suggestions?  Anyone?

There’s reallty nothing here to generate happiness or sadness. The marketplace is the great equalizer. Except in very limited circumstances, alternatives to proprietary software or devices are available in the marketplace. They may not have the luster of the proprietary object, but still meets the needs of most consumers.
The consumer has the final say in the marketplace. Think Kodak, Polaroid, Winn Dixie, as well as many other companies that could not meet the consumers needs.

Came here to say just that. My dislike for Seesmic has been building for a while now, ever since they bought Ping.fm, killed development, and then stopped issuing new API keys (as well as revoking the API key for a WordPress plugin I used to use). This is not at all the direction I hoped they’d go. I don’t plan to give any free feedback in the beta. In fact, this only reinforces my decision to never use any Seesmic products, ever.

I guess it’s back to Hellotxt.

How is Seesmic Ping different from Seesmic… Seesmic Social… That old twitter app I used to run…. So much Seesmic everywhere.

  • Charles Falanga

    Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your comments.

Like you, we love Ping.fm, and we wanted to take it to the next level: keep the great things about it (above all the simplicity) and improve what can be improve.  We’re making sure the service is robust and reliable to ensure all your posts are properly delivered, we build apps on all platforms (web, android, iOS, WP7, and more to come) to make sure you can use the service from anywhere, and we’re building cool features (scheduling, native image posting to Facebook and Twitter, additional social networks to post to, and much more to come here as well) that we’ll continue to add over time.
Now yes, this service will become paid in the future.  But we’re working hard to make sure it’s worth every penny. This is why we launched this beta version, to have you use it, and tell us what you think. So please, continue to provide your feedback to help us build it (feedback.seesmic.com).

Thanks a lot for being such an engaged community of users!

    Thank you,

    The Seesmic Team

I used Ping.FM to push my Blog out to 4 of my FB pages, Ping.fm stopped seeing my FB pages and now I would like to know if this new app, Seesmic pin will do what Ping.fm used too? It is really a very needed feature. Please tell me it’s coming back.

OK. So who else has an available API with functionality similar to Ping.fm? I’ve been looking ever since they put the API keys on hold. Yes, there’s Hellotxt but I not gotten a single reply to multiple API requests.

I was hoping this was going to mean they’d open up the Ping.fm API again but this actually probably means the end is near for Ping.fm.

  • Charles

Seesmic Ping is already available on Windows Phone 7 and we will launch our desktop apps for Mac OS X and Windows anytime soon.

  • Anonymous

To those who are “up in arms” I just noticed that Seesmic Ping treats Ping.fm as an Account. So (to me) it looks like old Ping will (for now?) remain freestanding and that new Ping will just treat it might any other service.

But there are still two questions:

    1) How long will that last? How long before new Ping swallows old Ping?

    2) What is the status of the old Ping API? Is it going to open again? When? Or should those of us who have been waiting and waiting final jump ship and move on?

I believe it’s very important that Seesmic be transparent and address these. ASAP?

Hello Ed, this feature is already available: you can post on several Facebook Pages and several Facebook accounts via Seesmic Ping.

  • http://blog.seesmic.com Seesmic

    Hello,
Indeed Ping.fm is still available as a selection in the dashboard but we are going to remove it anytime soon.
We might maintain the old Ping for a few weeks – this is why I encourage you to start using our new and great Seesmic Ping.
Regarding the API, it’s available in private beta. If you are interested, please contact us at SeesmicPingAPI@seesmic.com.
    Thanks for your support!
