Seesmic has been acquired by HootSuite

We are thrilled to announce today that Seesmic has been acquired by HootSuite. Seesmic and HootSuite have long shared a vision for the future of social media management and after years of friendly competition, have developed a mutual respect for one another. We care deeply about you, our users, and believe that this is the best possible outcome in what has been an exciting run together.

We would like to thank everyone involved with Seesmic since its launch, it has been an incredible ride and we are very thankful for all the support and passion you shared with us.

Like Seesmic, Hootsuite offers a suite of social media management tools, with even more options for small business and enterprise customers. Initially, support for both products will continue, however we will soon be bringing everyone into one great platform. We’re working on ways to make the transition as smooth as possible so keep an eye out for updates.

That’s a shame. I use Seesmic because Hootsuite is too complicated and cumbersome. I hope Seesmic stays around for a while.

congrats. i know it’s been a hard ride, but we’ve all been rooting for you. was this a case of HS buying out the competition so they could capture more market share, or did Seesmic have a piece of technology in Ping that HS couldn’t live without? r u the next instagram billionaires?

i came over to seesmic after tweetdeck failed me too many times. now we will see what hotosuite is like.

I’m saddened by the news, I just bought Seesmic Pro last night.. what a waste…

If you want to avoid HootSuite, Try Gremln http://gremln.com. A great alternative.

for what it’s worth, I find Hootsuite’s free version to be far better than some of the paid social dashboards I’ve tried… wonder how they plan to incorporate the two products…

Congrats Yama, Bastien, Loïc and all the team! Hope this ends up a good deal for you guys: the HootSuite team are great people too!

Not a big fan of hootsuite.  But Seesmic got paid (hopefully)…that’s all that matters.  Hopefully my company is next!

This is too bad.  I moved away from Seemsmic a while ago to Plume.  Plume became what Seesmic should have.  More features, better widgets, and the same columned interface like Seesmic has.  I really wanted to stick with Seesmic as it was my desktop twitter client of choice, but their Android developers left a lot to be desired.  If Hootsuite improved upon whats already there I may come back if its worth it.  Long Live Seesmic!

I’ve found FanTools http://fantools.net to be the best social media dashboard out there

does that mean Ping is going to go bye bye? I hope not

I hope Hootsuite doesn’t continue to ignore Windows Phone. I love using Seesmic Ping on my Nokia Lumia 900.

I’ve been a user since PingFM days–pre-iPhone.  HootSuite desktop is pretty robust for marketers, but as a plain/regular user, I like the simplified version of Seesmic web.  (I’m a Pro subscriber.)  As far as apps go…Seesmic wins.  I’m not a fan of HootSuite’s tabs.  I’m looking forward to this being an interesting meeting of the minds!

Oh dear lord.. Seesmic has the only Web UI that doesnt make me want to poke my eyes out. Please dont ditch it.

I just want a twitter client. I don’t want a “ping”. Your twitter client was the only game in town, and now I have “PING”. I hate it. It’s shit.

So, what does this mean for the Seesmic Desktop that I love so much? It is far better than Hootsuite.

Has anyone had any problems with adding Facebook to sync? I can’t get Facebook to sync with seesmic. Twitter is all set but seesmic is experiencing errors connecting to facebook

When Seesmic said they were killing off their Desktop client I went looking for another product.  I tried Hootsuite, several times.  I don’t like it.  Seesmic was so freaking easy to use, really loved the desktop client vs. doing it all in a web browser.  I sure hope Hootsuite enhances their products with Seesmic technology instead of just killing off Seesmic and keeping the engineers.  Again, there’s a reason so many of us chose Seesmic OVER Hootsuite!!  sigh… one of these years a product I really love & use all of the time will be around for a very long time…

this is very painful. seesmic was one such a brilliant app. i never liked hootsuite!!!

  • Brian

Hootsuite really sucks compared to Seesmic. Problems uploading photos. Crap sharing compared to Seesmic. Seesmic has been hands down the best social networking app. This is really sad. I have been trying to use Hootsuite and I keep looking for alternatives… Thank God for Flipboard on Android.

  • Noctis

This is not good news. You may be excited but the rest of us are looking elsewhere for the tools we need….and they’re not at Hootsuite.

First of all congrats… every achievement matters a lot. No doubt who deserves the medal wins that. I appreciate your creativity.

I was a ping.fm fan. Wasn’t thrilled with the switch to Seesmic. The free version was much more limited than ping. So now another change. Never tried hootsuite, so I’m open. Just interested in what I can do for free.

  • Elle

I already tried Hoot Suite and don’t like it at all. Kept saying I had to upgrade and spend $10 out of my pocket to add more social networking sites when I hadn’t even hit the 5 max. Total rip off. Seems like it would only be worthwhile to someone already making a killing on the net.
